Introduction

Unlike music files, which are widely portable from one device to another, videos require a certain amount of juggling between various formats to adapt to the equipment used to read them.

A video rendered for a "Home Cinema" device can occupy several Gb and will be unreadable on a smartphone.
The same video rendered for a smartphone will require only Mb, and can be played on a "Home Cinema" device but it will look ugly.

That is why we recommend that you preserve your original project files as far as possible, and create from them videos suitable for the devices you wish to use for playback.

To simplify settings for the rendering operation, ffDiaporama contains predefined settings for the following devices:
IIt is also possible for you to define all parameters directly by using the advanced option.

Smartphones and tablets

Generally speaking the main differences between these devices are: Consult the documentation for your equipment or search the Internet to determine these two characteristics.
As far as the resolution is concerned, note that most devices can read videos designed for lower resolution devices without difficulty.

The device models available in ffDiaporama are as follows:

Multimedia system (Home cinema)

These "Home Cinema" devices are connected to a television set. The format choice will thus be made according to the requirements of the set used.

Warning: The old SD format is only suitable for old television sets using cathode ray tube technology. With these tubes, points were not circular but oval: we call this anamorphism.

Playing a video in SD format on a modern LCD, LED or plasma television set gives openly disastrous results: The image is particularly ugly! Thus, if your television is new and if your device allows it, always use a HD or Full-HD format in preference to a SD format.
